Top Ten Programming Languages 2008

The nine slot is taken by the Bourne Again Shell ( BASH. Time and time again the virtues of using a unix based systems shine through, and BASH set to POSIX is often used to quickly roll a time saving script - be it for archive, backup, deployment or firewall configuration the true swiss army pen knife of the computing world are the shell languages.

Whilst predominantly not our command line shell, ZSH takes that roll, BASH is a great all rounder for creating scripts that are portable across unix systems, generally Linux and FreeBSD in our case in 2008.

There is always new element to BASH to learn and hone, and some of the string handling and matching has made our scripts even more succinct and powerful.
