Top Ten Programming Languages 2008

C the mother programming language of the Unix operating systems is a firm favourite of ours. C is great when you have something that needs a bit more of the low level touch, be it a small application, driver or as a library swig'd up Python.

If shell is the swiss army knife in the set, C is the leatherman. Much like functional programming C puts some of the fun back into coding, but this time you have to think of the computer itself and not just the algorithm.

C has been with us for a long time, and to be honest, will probably always be there, a great language for when you just have to get it right.
