Haskell - 07keep it simple |
From the same Scottish University that bought us BASIC comes Haskell. These Glasweigans have produced an excellent functional language that takes the brackets and gives a clear syntax.
With all the talk of multicore CPUs and concurrency every developer worth his salt has been casting around for ways to solve the problem without having to resign themselves to multithreading. Functional languages offer a logical way into what are termed finite state machines. By using lite weight processes at the langauge level, it is possible to run things concurrently, and use communication as the basis of control.
But, it is not concurrency alone that gives Haskell its appeal to us, it is in main the functional style of development that appeals. When coding in a function way, one is free to think about the mathematics of a particular problem and really appreciate the algorithm used to solve it.
Six left to see.
